The curatorial focus of our exhibition lies on the human-geographical concept of the “Sense of Place.” In general, this refers to the emotional attachment and connection that people develop or experience in relation to specific places and particular environments. The term encompasses both positive associations of comfort, security, and well-being, as well as negative feelings such as fear, dysphoria, and placelessness that can arise from a place or a home. Within the framework of the exhibition, the “Sense of Place” is applied freely yet directly to the context of Ukraine and serves as a connecting thread between all the works on display. In this way, the exhibited pieces enter into dialogue with one another, raising questions about the relationship to home and cultural values, the transformation of history and the present, and the definition of both individual and collective identities.
